Nakia Thompson

Nakia M. Thompson is a Member of the National Association of Licensed Paralegals (N.A.L.P) in England and a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) in the UK where she achieved a grade of Distinction in Legal Studies in 2015. In addition, Nakia is also an Alumni of the University of Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL, USA where she acquired accreditations in Business Management.
In 2014, Nakia commenced her legal career at Harney’s Bermuda Ltd. While completing her studies at Bermuda College, Nakia was selected along with 12 other prominent Paralegals to head a major discovery project which involved one of the largest “offshore” feeder funds Ponzi schemes and Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. The net worth of the targeted investment portfolio exceeded calculated damages in the range of $3.1 billion. Ultimately, the discovery work performed by Nakia and her team played a major part in the ruling of an undisclosed settlement.
Thereafter, Nakia continued making strides in her legal career as a Consultant for Wakefield Quin Limited, a Bermudian local law firm, in the capacity of Corporate Executive. While employed with Wakefield Quinn Limited, Nakia worked hand in hand with a Director and Head of the Corporate Department. Nakia engaged in complex merger agreements, incorporation of new companies, and many other voluminous legal document transactions.
Prior to Joining Bruce Swan & Associates in October 2019 Mrs. Thompson was with DV Bermuda as a Senior Paralegal from August 2018 to October 2019, Nakia has successfully handled a variety of front-line negotiations on behalf of the firm on a multitude of tribunal, civil and commercial court matters.
Nakia is a well-rounded Paralegal with strong knowledge in Human Rights, Employment Law, Family Law and Contract Liability.
Nakia aspires to obtain certification from ICSA which would aid in her continued growth at DV Bermuda. At present, she is head of DV Bermuda’s Legal Support Team and Multilingual Transcription Program, which is due to launch in the year 2020.
Although Nakia is of American and Honduran decent, she proudly marched as a pioneer of the Bermuda Regiment's Women and Rifle Drill Team from 2014 - 2015 in representation of equality.
As the devoted wife to Sheldon "5 Times" Thompson, a retired local athlete, and mother of a 10-year-old daughter, Nakia prides herself in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
